Personal access problems are solved with ekeyTOCA products! The convenience of completely keyless entry, added security, and peace of mind replaces worries associated with the use of keys, PINs, and access cards. Situations such as loss, stolen, unauthorized copies made, shared codes becoming known, buddy punching, etc. Not to mention the time and money saved from managing numbers of keys, codes, and cards. This system is better than others at double the price.
TOCAhome, TOCAhome3, TOCAhome pc are stand alone (no computer required) fingerprint biometric access control systems consisting of a weather resistant reader and a control panel. Desired users are entered and deleted at the control panel.
An enrolled user swipes his/her finger at the reader. If the key code (an irreversible code taken from one’s fingerprint) is matched, the person will be allowed to gain access. If not matched, access is denied.

In which temperature range does our TOCA-sensor work?
The operating temperature range is between -20 °C and plus +70 °C.
Which authentication protocol is used with TOCAlogon?
The authentication protocol is LDAP, the same Windows is using.
What is TOCAmodule and what happens in the TOCAmodule?
TOCAmodule is the external unit of TOCAaccess. Here the processing of the picture of the thermal finger scan takes place. In addition the biometric recognition and storage of the biometric data takes place there. In particular, TOCAmodule is planned for usage in the automotive industry. TOCAmodule can be turned off at any time with no danger of loosing any data.
When using TOCAworldwide a clicking sound can be heard in short intervals. What is that?
In short intervals, the browser asks for an exisiting set of data. Depending on the software version this check is done every 3 to 5 sec, which is the reason for the clicking.
Does a rubber, latex or silicon finger work to circumvent TOCA®?
To put it into a nutshell, no. ekey is using the thermal swipe sensor of Atmel. Even if an expert wanted to produce an artificial finger made of rubber, latex or silicon from his own hand, it would be extremely difficult to circumvent the Atmel sensor. Both the sensor’s thermal technologies as well as the swipe-process increase the level of security further.
Generally speaking, without the active cooperation of the “finger-owner”, it is almost impossible to produce a fingerprint, which could outsmart both the Atmel sensor and ekey’s software. As a rule of thumb, forgers and burglars always take the easiest way. In other words, it is much easier and less know-how necessary to copy a key, password or steal a card, than a fingerscan.
How safe are TOCA® solutions from hacking?
As there is no database of stored fingerprints to be compromised, our systems contain nothing for a hacker to hack into.
What is FFE and where is it used?
In order to reduce the possible probability for misuse, ekey developed a so-called FFE (false finger recognition) software. At the moment, it is only used in our product TOCAworldwide. As this software, however, lowers the convenience considerably due to the strict verification parameters, it is possibly to activate or deactivate this feature. Therefore, on the individual demand of convenience and security level, the set up can be adjusted to each client. Normally, the FFE is deactivated with TOCAworldwide, so that the system can be used also by inexperienced users without problems.
What is the enrollment process?
There are three steps to enrollment:
1. The biometric (e.g. fingerprint) being used is captured by a sensing mechanism (a scanner like TOCAbit by ekey);
2. The unique characteristics of the biometric are converted and encrypted into an identifier record;
3. The encrypted information (= identifier record) is stored in a database for later use in comparing the enrolled record to the live biometric.
How is it possible that problems during enrollment occur?
Rarely, it might happen that a person is facing problems during the finger enrollment.
During this process a template is generated, which will be subsequently used as reference. In order to achieve a convenient recognition rate later on, it is necessary that the template is of satisfactory quality. The entire enrolment procedure only has to take place once.
If there are any unforeseen problems or difficulties, please contact us. We are looking forward to helping you.
If I cut my enrolled finger, can I still use the system?
Only a severely cut or damaged finger can render a reading invalid. We recommend our users to enroll more than one finger as a backup in case your usual finger is injured.
Is there technical documentation available on TOCA® solutions of ekey?
Yes. Technical data and specifications are listed on the individual product sheet for the specific product and latest software downloads and also user guidelines and manuals are provided (i.e. on our homepage).
Is there standard maintenance required on a TOCAbit sensor?
Our sensors are not bothered by a small amount of dirt or dust. We do recommend that the fingerprint sensor regularly be wiped clean with a cotton swab.
What are the biometric applications of ekey for private persons and businesses?
ekey develops software which is a secure, convenient and cost-effective solution for private use, but also for businesses of all kind. TOCA fingerprint recognition systems by ekey are a logical application for many people and businesses because of its comparatively low costs, high convenience and easy integration and usage. Anything that saves the information-overloaded consumer from having to remember another password or PIN comes as a welcome respite for us.
How is the uniqueness of fingerprints captured?
TOCA® recognises the minutiae in fingerprint images. The advantages of this technology are numerous: First of all, the data record is extremely small. The storage space per fingerprint is less than 1 KB. Furthermore the conversion of the fingerprint into a minutiae template is a purely one-way function. It is therefore not possible to create a fingerprint from a minutiae template.
Fingerprint technology was selected for various reasons as the best biometric method for the TOCA® system. The sensors have already been priced in a range that makes them mass-marketable. Fingerprint recognition is an active process, which means that a human finger must be placed on a defined surface, which in and of itself is a protection against unwanted recognition. For example, other systems make it possible to identify users against their will or without them knowing that they are being identified. Another essential reason for choosing fingerprint technology was the high level of security and most every person is in a position to use such a system as long as the respective finger shows a minimum number of minutiae.
Does TOCA® infringe on privacy?
No. In fact, using ekey’s TOCA® solutions is one of the best ways of protecting personal privacy. Your fingerprint template is encrypted and stored in a database. Without your matching live fingerprint, the encrypted fingerprint template cannot be used to recreate a fingerprint.
How does ekey protect my fingerprint biometric data from being stolen?
During the enrollment process the minutiae points are defined and a mathematical value is assigned to them. Those values are then encrypted by the system. The fingerprint itself is discarded from the computer’s memory and only the fingerprint template is stored in the database. What is of great importance is the fact that the encrypted information is meaningless until the corresponding live biometric is available for comparison. Therefore it cannot be used for unauthorized access and your fingerprint is not at risk.
Is it possible to use a time lag relay in order to address 2 consecutive doors?
Yes! Through the relays of the internal unit, a vast variety of applications can be realized. Setting a predefined time lag is only one option. By using adequate relays for example, TOCAaccess can be set such way to require two fingers of different persons. Generally speaking, when thinking of possible combinations, only the sky is the limit. For further information, please contact your electrician as being the expert for the installation.
Is it possible to connect two external units (scanners) with one internal unit?
No! For security reason, each external unit will be directly connected to an internal unit (initialized). The communication between the two units is then encrypted.
How many fingerprints can be stored?
TOCAaccess light can store up to 99 fingerprints. Thereby, either 99 users with 1 finger, or 10 users with 9,9 fingers each can be enrolled. Most of the times up to 50 users with 2 fingers are found.
To which extent is TOCAaccess protected against vandalism/malicious mischief?
As a matter of principle, unfortunately everything can be smashed to bits with adequate efforts. However, by carefully selecting proper material (glass fibre strengthened plastic housing, etc.) ekey is trying to act preventatively as much as possible. Additional protection is offered by the new stainless steel cover in exclusive design.
How does the user administration of TOCAaccess light+ interface on a computer work?
The internal unit of TOCAaccess light+ interface contains a RS232 interface which is connected directly either to a PC or laptop.
With the accompanying software numerous applications, such as a comfortable user administration, time attendance, changing the parameter setting, etc. can be carried out.
Is it possible for a stranger to demount the scanner unit?
Yes, in fact it is possible. However, the question arises what this person should do with it except of collecting “trophies”.
