This is a double sided lock (keypad on both sides). Both sides come preset to the same
combination. You can leave it as is or change it. If you like, we can pre-install this lock in a
welded box ready for mounting. See below for options.
Important: this lock has one concealed screw. This is to make it difficult to unscrew from the inside. Since it's a double sided lock this is important for security. If a lock can be easily unscrewed then what's the point of using a double sided lock? A few other double sided locks don't offer this feature. Please note that the picture of this model may be slightly different then lock we send.
Things to know about double sided locks
Some keyless locks are also available with the double sided option. It's an
option that is sometimes used when a door has smaller
glass panels. This way a burglar can't break the glass and
open the lock by putting his hand in because he would still need
the key or code. Other reasons for using a double sided lock are on gates so a hand can't be put through for unlocking. Or if a member of a family has alzheimers This type of installation is not always appropriate
because of the fire safety issue. As a matter of fact, it's
even illegal to use a double side lock in many parts of
the U.S. But double sided lock can be very useful if used safely. Always check with your local fire authorities.
No battery needed for these locks!
Most keyless technology is not set up for double sided
installation. If in your installation you think it's important
to use double sided options first check with your local
fire authorities. A couple ways to do a double sided
installation would be: Placing a keypad such as the
Securitron on either side of the door (inside
and out). Or by using two proximity readers, one on the inside and the other outside.
Another alternative: the lock company Unican will modify one of their
heavy duty mechanical push-button models
for double sided function. The last alternative is with this smaller digital
lock. It works like the larger Unican lock but smaller and is lighter duty and
less expensive. Please call or email if you think
this is the way you want to go.
